Apparently impressed with the good job the First Responders in the war against the novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic are doing, the Director General of Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu has heaped encomium on Nigerian health workers.
Speaking on Wednesday in Abuja at the daily press briefing of the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19 Pandemic, Dr. Ihekweazu revealed that a good number of frontline health workers have themselves been infected in the line of duty.
He also disclosed that some of them who are now infected with Covid-19 virus are still working from their isolation centers, adding that their desire to continue to provide services even in their state of health speaks volumes of their patriotic virtues.
Dr. Ihekweazu therefore asked them to persevere, saying that, ” their service to Nigeria will surely be recognised”.
“I sincerely, on behalf of all of us (PTF) thank everyone in the team of First Responders; ambulance drivers, laboratory technicians, nurses, doctors and other health workers. They have shown professionalism and patriotism”, he stated.
Meanwhile, the NCDC boss has also asked Muslim faithful to use the Ramadan period to abide by the new way of life albeit medical advisory by health experts which includes physical distancing, prohibition of religious gatherings and observation of personal hygiene.
