Determined to capture the children in the remote areas of the country in the Federal Government’s E-learning programme which has been upscaled during the novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic lockdown, parents have been asked to avail their children with transistor radio sets to key into the project.
This call was made today (Monday) by Minister of State for Education, Honourable Emeka Nwajiuba who was a guest on ‘Sunrise Daily’ on Channels Television.
He said that parents should equally strive to buy batteries for the children to be able to tune to the stations that run Educational Programme of the Federal Government.
The Minister also advised parents and guardians to go a step further to teach their children and wards to take advantage of the E-learning to fill the gap created by the prolonged lockdown.
Nwajiuba argued that children in the rural communities of the country where electricity is not readily available can learn through the radio, pointing out that most parents in the remote areas own battery-operated transistor radio sets which they can handover to their children to aid them in e-learning.
According to him the Federal Ministry of Education does not have the financial muscles to buy electronic computers for every child but we can encourage parents who are very close to the children to help in providing them with educational materials including battery-operated transistor radio sets to enhance their learning.
Meanwhile, Nwajiuba has given kudos to the Government of Anambra, Ogun, Lagos and Borno states whom he singled out for praise for keying into the E-learning project of the Federal Government, pointing out that the Governor of Borno state, Professor Zana Zullum understands the gains of the project and has keyed into it.
He also commended the Governor of Anambra state, saying that the state was ahead of even his ministry in
Online Learning project.
He therefore called on other states yet to partner the Federal Government to see the need to key into the project.
