A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has nullified the 2014 Constitution Amendment of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that brought Senator Ali Modu Sheriff into office as National Chairman.
Declaring the amendment as illegal on Wednesday, Justice Valentine Ashi of Court 29, said with the nullification, Sheriff has seized to be the PDP national chairman.
According to Justice Ashi, the constitutional amendment is a violation of the Electoral Act and declared all action carried out with it including anybody parading himself as officer of the PDP as illegal.
Meanwhile, police personnel prevented another Edo PDP governorship primary planned by the faction led by Ali Modu Sheriff from holding.
Policemen cordoned off the entrance to Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin, the scheduled venue.
Edo state Commissioner of Police, Chris Eziken, would however not confirm if the primary would still hold, saying “I am not INEC. It is too early to find out if the primary will hold or not.”
Prompt News Online recalls that Osagie Ize-Iyamu, emerged Edo PDP governorship candidate at a primary organised by the Ahmed Markafi-led faction on June 20.
However, Mathew Iduoriyekemwen, one of the aspirants that lost out quickly switched over to the Sheriff- led faction.
