NASARAWA – A Masaka Upper Area Court in Nasarawa State on Tuesday ordered the remanding of one Kingsley Akuatukwu in Keffi Prison over an alleged breaking of plastic chairs in a beer parlour.
Akuatukwu is facing a four-count charge of conspiracy, trespass, mischief and theft.
The Prosecutor, Mr Frank Swem, told the court that the complainant, Kenneth Ubani, reported the matter at the Divisional Police Station at Masaka on Oct. 20..
Swem said that accused committed the offence on Oct 18 at about 4 a.m. at Nyanya Gwandara in Masaka, Nasarawa State.
He said that the accused and 11 others now at large, visited Ubani’s business premises at Masaka under the pretence of buying drinks.
He said few minutes after they arrived, the accused and the others engaged in a fight during which they broke two plastic chairs and a table valued at N11,600.
The prosecutor further alleged that the accused and the others stole N15,630 belonging to the complainant and escaped.
Swem said that when the accused was arrested, he admitted committing the offence.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 97 298, 327 and 287 of the Penal Code.
He urged the court to refuse the accused bail because he had refused to disclose the identities of his accomplices.
The accused however pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Judge, Yakubu Ishaku, ordered that the accused be remanded in prison and adjourned the case until Oct. 27 for hearing.
