The National Judicial Council (NJC) rose from its meeting on Thursday, nominating three justices of the Court of Appeal to President Goodluck Jonathan for consideration of one of the President of the Court of Appeal.
Justice Maryam Aloma-Mukhtar, the Chief Justice of the Federation heads the NJC.
Prompt News recalls that the position of the President of the Court of Appeal became vacant following the suspension and subsequent retirement of Justice Ayo Isa Salami.
The three Justices nominated in order of seniority are Dalhatu Adamu, the Presiding Justice of the Kaduna Division; Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, who is currently acting as the President of the Court of Appeal; and Justice Amiru Sanusi, Presiding Justice of the Abuja Division.
If tradition will be sustained, the most senior judge, Dalhatu Adamu, is most likely to emerge as Salami’s successor.
