A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Wednesday sentenced one Vincent Paul, to six months imprisonment for criminal breach of trust and cheating.
Paul who resides in Nyanya, Abuja, accused of absconding with his customer’s money, had pleaded guilty to the charges of breach of trust and cheating.
The judge, Mr Abubakar Sadiq, who sentenced the convict to six months imprisonment, however, gave him N6, 000 option of fine.
Sadiq, who warned Paul to shun crime and be a good citizen, expressed the hope that the sentence would serve as a deterrent to others.
He ordered Paul to pay N40, 000 as compensation to the nominal complainant.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Mrs Okagha Ijeoma, had told the court that one Fatima Balomi reported the matter at Utako Police Station
Ijeoma said that on Jan. 6, the complainant gave the convict N40, 000 to construct aluminum door for her.
She said that the convict intentionally refused to do the job or return the N40, 000, rather he criminally converted the money to his personal use.
Ijeoma said the convict absconded to an unknown destination until May 5, when he was seen and arrested by the police.
The prosecutor said that during police investigation, the convict confessed to committing the crime.
She said that the offences contravened Sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.
