President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent announcement of board appointments for 42 federal agencies has sparked controversy following the appointment of two individuals as chairmen of the Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute (NBRRI).
In a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Hon. Durosimi Meseko from Kogi State and Hon. Yahuza Ado Inuwa from Nasarawa State were both listed as chairmen of the NBRRI. Hon. Meseko was named at position 21 on the list, while Hon. Inuwa appeared at position 41, raising questions about the process and oversight in the appointments.
President Tinubu, in his announcement, emphasized that the roles of board chairpersons are non-executive and cautioned appointees against meddling in the daily management of their respective agencies.
However, the duplicate appointments have overshadowed this directive, causing confusion.
As of now, no explanation has been provided to address or clarify the error, leaving the situation unresolved.
The appointments, which include managing directors, directors-general, and board secretaries, took immediate effect.
