Nasarawa State Government has called on residents in both formal and informal sectors to embrace the Nasarawa Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) for better access to affordable quality health services.
Mr Dogo Shammah, the Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, made the call on Friday, when the Executive Secretary of the scheme, Dr Gaza Dogara-Gwamna, paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Lafia.
He described the scheme as a novel initiative that would guarantee quality health service for everyone in the state.
The commissioner pledged the ministry’s support in the area of sensitisation and awareness campaign to keep the public abreast with activities of the scheme.
“The NHIS is a new scheme entirely in the state that needs to be projected and publicised in both print and electronic media, using local languages to pass the information.
“It’s our project. The ministry will not relent in giving you necessary support, especially in the area of sensitising people on the need to enroll into the scheme,” he said.
He thanked the executive secretary of the scheme for the visit and expressed the ministry’s readiness to enroll its workers into the scheme.
Earlier, Dogara-Gwamna said the visit was meant to seek partnership with the ministry in the area of information dissemination to help project the activities of the scheme.
He said that the scheme had been mandated to provide health insurance to every resident of the state in the formal and informal sectors to enable them to access quality health service.
He further said that the scheme was established in line with the United Nation’s universal health coverage and Goal Three of the Sustainable Development Goals.
