A 37-year-old commercial bus driver, Kehinde Bankole, who allegedly stole a commercial bus worth N3.7 million was on Thursday brought before an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
Bankole, whose residential address was not provided, is standing trial on a two-count charge of breach of peace and stealing preferred against him by the police.
The Prosecutor, ASP Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometime in November, at Bolunlopu area of Ikotun, Lagos.
Aigbokhan said that the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by taking an LT Volks Wagen bus worth N3.7 million given to him for commercial purposes to an unknown place.
He said that the bus with registration number EKY 379 YG belonged to one Mr Chukwudi Ogbonna.
He said that the defendant could not give sufficient explanation to what happened to the commercial bus.
Aigbokhan said that the offences contravened Sections 168(d) and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Magistrate Miss K. A. Ariyo granted him bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum.
Ariyo ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed and must show evidence of tax payments to the Lagos State Government.
She also ordered that one of the sureties must be a blood relative to the defendant.
The magistrate adjourned the case until Jan. 13, 2023 for mention. (NAN)
