It was emotion galore for the Past Lady Captains of IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja as they battled on the course alongside other Amateur golfers for the 2021 Past Lady Captains Cup.
The 18-hole event organised by the current Lady Captain, Maryrose Richard-Obioha and the Lady Section of the Club was to celebrate and appreciate the Past Lady Captains for their contributions to the development of the club and the game during and after their tenure.
At the end of the one-day event, the 2005 Lady Captain and the winner of 2013 Ladies Close Championship, Christie Adejoh dumped other competitors to emerge overall winner.
The Amazon who is also a lawyer and handicap 22 netted 76, having grossed 98 to add the winner’s trophy to her champion’s kitty.
Closely followed was the wife of former Kogi State Governor, Farida Wada, who was also a Past Lady Captain. Handicap 15 golfer grossed 92 and netted 77 to place second.
Other winners include TC Owuama who won the Super Veteran Best Nett, F. Anyanwu who emerged Eaglet Veteran Best Nett while the 2019 Club Captain, Sola Awoyungbo went home with Past Captains Best Nett trophy.
In her remarks, Christie Adejoh thanked the Organizer and her team who made the day memorable for her. She warned that she will be back next year to defend the Cup.
Lady Captain, Maryrose Richard-Obioha while acknowledging the turn out of Past Lady Captains as well as other guests, said the event was put together to celebrate the energetic ladies that make Ladies Section what it is today.
“We just use this event to thank them for what they did in the ladies section of the Club”.
Lady Hon. Secretary, Lizzy Asomugha congratulated those that took part in the event. She said it is not about who won but about participation.
While thanking the current Lady Captain, Maryrose Richard-Obioha, and the entire Lady Section for the honour done to them, the 2000 Lady Captain, Mrs Ngozi Osuhor, on behalf of other Past Lady Captains, described the Championship as well conceived and well appreciated.
She charged the Club to emulate the lady Section by establishing the Past Captains Cup Championship.
Each Past Lady Captains went home with a plague.
