Mr. Ahmed Abubakar, Commandant General, Nigeria security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has tasked the special female squad to perform optimally and ensure a crime-free society.
Abubakar made the call at the inauguration of a 35-member special females squad on Saturday in Bauchi, urging them to live up to their expectations of combating crime in the Society.
He said the training of the female squad followed the security challenges facing the country and as part of the NSCDC efforts to combat all forms of crimes in the society.
The CG, represented by the Mr. Nurudeen Abdullahi, Commandant, Bauchi Command, said training of the female squad was a challenge that started with eight female trainees but ended with 35 graduates because of the efforts of instructors.
“The 35 special female squad were trained on intensive foot drills, weapons handling, assault and obstacle crossing, riot drill, and fire fighting, among others.
“The essence of the training is to equip and prepare them, both physically and mentally, using the skills acquired during the training to fight crimes in the society.”
The special squad also has responsibility to fight crimes in schools, banditry, kidnapping, rape, assault, homicide and other-related crimes in the society.
Dr. Abubakar said the Corps would continue to support and encourage the training of special female squads in each state of the federation.
He commended the Bauchi state Governor, Bala Mohammad, for providing security agencies with an atmosphere to operate freely and successfully.
In her remark, Hajiya Aisha Mohammmed, the wife of the Governor, commanded the NSCDC for preparing the female squad to fight crime.
“I expect the special females squad to be deployed to schools and other vulnerable areas as well as my office to combat crime,” she said.
Mrs. Mohammmed who was named “Mama Civil Defence” assured the female squad of her support, warning members not to give up while fighting crime.
She urged them to continue with their total submission, loyalty and respect to their husbands, saying that the new task for them should not be the cause of disrespect of their loved ones.
Represented by Hajiya Yelwa Tafawa Balewa, Chairman Bauchi State Orphans and Vulnerable Children Agency (BASOVCA), she congratulated the female squad, charging them to make good use of the skills acquired during the training and fight crime in the Society. (NAN)
