By Olusegun Lawrence Senators loyal to Senate President Bukola Saraki under the aegis of ‘Like Minds Senators’ have vowed to protect the institution of the Upper Chamber.
Sequel to last week ruling of the Supreme Court that Saraki should be tried by the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, Senator Marafa, spokesperson for the pro- Ahmed Lawan, has called on the embattled Saraki to resign from his exalted position to face corruption charges.
Both Saraki and Lawan are members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
But in his reaction, Senator Dino Melaye, spokesperson for the Like Minds Group, said the CCT trial is not about the person of Saraki, but the senate institution, saying they would defend it.
“Marafa’s ranting against Saraki will not fly in the senate because the case at the CCT is not about Saraki; rather, it’s about the Senate.
“Marafa is a clown who does not know that what is happening is not against Saraki as an individual, it is against the Senate as an institution.
“We will defend the senate and we will no longer fold our harms on the issue. We know that at the end of the day, we shall come out stronger,” Melaye said.
Prompt News recalls that Saraki outsmarted Senator Ahmed Lawan, to clinch the Senate Presidency with the support of the senators elected under the platform of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
