TP Mazembe head coach Lamia Boumedhi praised his players for their resilience after they came back from brink of defeat to beat Edo Queens 3-1 on Tuesday.
Emem Essien gave Edo Queens the lead in the 59th minute.
TP Mazembe then struck with the equalising goal on the dot of 90 minutes through Merveille Nanguji.
The game went into extra time with the scoreline locked at 1-1.
Comfort Folorunsho scored an own goal in the 101 minute as TP Mazembe took the lead for the first time.
Marlene Kasai converted from the penalty spot eight minutes later to put the game beyond Edo Queens.
“I am very happy and satisfied with this final result,” Boumedhi told reporters.
” I take this opportunity to congratulate my players who played a great match. They poured their hearts out and played with grit.
“Our secret for this match was mental strength. Before this match, I told my players to stay focused until the referee’s final whistle even if we conceded a goal.
“We knew we were facing a good team and we would have to stay focused until the end of the match.”
