In continuation of efforts to ensure that players, coaches and football stakeholders are safe at all stadia across Africa, the train of the ongoing Confederation of African Football (CAF) Safe Stadium Initiative has moved to Republic of Tanzania.
This is even as Tanzania has now become the 11th country in Africa to host the CAF Safe Stadium Initiative programme for Safety and Security Officers drawn from the Premier Leagues Clubs, Regional Football Association, Tanzania Football Federation (TFF), Police and other security stakeholders in the East African nation.
Speaking at the end of Tanzania leg of the CAF Safe Stadium Initiative, CAF Head of Safety and Security Department, Dr. Christian Ifeanyivhukwu Emeruwa said it was great to see the level of government and TFF acceptance of the CAF Safe Stadium Initiative.
The CAF Security Czar eulogised the host country’s football authorities for accepting to put the programme together and said it will be for the benefit of football in the country and Africa.
The brainchild of Dr. Emeruwa, the CAF Safe Stadium Initiative programme has been held in 11 countries including Kenya, Zimbabwe, Liberia, Eswatini, among others and will go round the 54 Member Associations of CAF.
The CAF Head of Safety and Security said: ‘’The CAF Safety and Security Department is committed to ensuring “zero deaths across all stadiums in Africa”, pointing out that “it was important to hold training and evaluation conferences with all National Safety and Security Officers”.
“They are our representatives in their respective countries, and we needed to ensure that they are up to date with the latest safety and security operations”, he added.
The Safe Stadium Initiatives aim to create a safe environment for everyone coming to the football venue and promote a safety and security culture within Member Associations (MAs) across Africa.
Prompt News reports that in order to ensure the effective implementation of safety and security measures during national sports events, the CAF Safety and Security Department will be training 40 individuals in each Member Association.
