The Chairman of Degema Local Government Area, Mr Michael Williams, has congratulated the Rivers United FC on its victory against the Young Africans of Tanzania.
Rivers United had on Sunday, defeated its visitor by 1-0 in a CAF Champions 2nd leg preliminary round tie game at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt.
Williams in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Daerefaa Braide, in Port Harcourt on Monday, said that the feat was a double victory against the visitor.
The council boss, while expressing joy over the victory of the Port Harcourt-based team against the Young Africans of Tanzania, said that the players exhibited team spirit.
“The players of Rivers United exhibited team spirit, and it culminated in their victory.
“Nothing would be impossible for Rivers people to achieve when they work together in unison and firm determination,” he said.
According to the council boss, the support and investment in the sports sector by Gov. Nyesom Wike also motivated Rivers United, which worked hard to secure a back-to-back victory.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalled that Rivers United held a slim 1-0 advantage after the first leg encounter in Dar es Salam.
