Buni’s commendation is contained in a statement by his Director-General, Press and Media Affairs, Alhaji Mamman Mohammed, and released to newsmen in Damaturu on Thursday.
The Minister of Aviation, Alhaji Hadi Sirika, had said on Wednesday that the Federal Executive Council (FEC) had approved N6.3 billion for the actual construction work and N219.8 billion for the post construction services of the project.
“ And in our drive to develop the sector and ensure connectivity within our region and also improve on our security architecture, and also attend to various needs of civilization, we found this airport and many others coming across the country useful,” Sirika said.
The governor said that the need for an airport in the state was strategic and necessary for security and economic benefits.
“An airport in the state will enhance easy movement of security personnel and equipment to fight terrorism and cross border crimes, among others.
“Our people will also take advantage of the airport for the movement of their goods and services.
“Yobe state has one of the finest Sesame seeds, hides and skin as well as livestock in Nigeria; the airport will certainly facilitate local and international trades in this direction”, Buni said.
