Despite failing to get on the scoresheet in Arsenal’s 5-0 win over the MLS All-Stars, Bukayo Saka’s impact was there for all to see in Wednesday’s victory.
He was unstoppable during the first half, wreaking havoc down the right flank for the Gunners and creating the team’s first two goals.
It was no surprise then that he was named MVP of the 2023 MLS All-Star Game, according to SPORTS BRIEF.
Arsenal wasted no time dissecting the MLS All-Stars’ defence, scoring the opening goal in the fifth minute, per Yahoo Sports.
Jorginho found some space in the middle of the pitch and released Saka with a perfect through ball down the right wing.
The young Englishman fought off Walker Zimmerman and Álvaro Barreal as he made his way towards the box. Despite the double team, Saka still managed to find Gabriel Jesus, who scored with a delicate chip shot from outside the box.
Saka found himself at the end of another fabulous through ball down the right flank in the 23rd minute.
He danced his way past the helpless Barreal before feeding Leandro Trossard with a pass at the edge of the box.
Trossard gathered Saka’s pass and shifted the ball to his right before unleashing a powerful strike past the MLS goalkeeper to make it 2-0 for Arsenal.
Mikel Arteta made three changes at the break, with Kai Havertz, Karl Hein, and Martin Odegaard replacing Saka, Aaron Ramsdale, and Eddie Nketiah.
That didn’t stop Arsenal from dominating the MLS All-Stars, as they added three more goals in the second half to complete the rout, per ESPN.
