The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), General Muhammadu Buhari has promised to assemble a team of competent Nigerians to run the affairs of the country should the party win the February 14 election.
Buhari, who spoke during the flag-off of the APC presidential campaign at the Liberation Stadium in Port Harcourt, the River State capital, noted that insecurity and economy remain the major problems confronting the country that must be tackled.
He therefore, enjoined Nigerians to use their votes effectively to vote in a government that will have their interest at heart and work for their common good.
According to him, there are lots of works to be done to salvage the country, saying that the damage already done is huge.
The former military Head of State commended the Director-General of his campaign organization, Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers, for organising a successful flag-off rally, saying he earned the esteemed position he occupies.
“The fundamental issues facing this country are insecurity and the problem of economy which is being made worse by corruption. I assure you that we are going to finally assemble a competent team of Nigerians to efficiently manage this country.
“I am appealing to you; the damage that has been done to this country is great. The level of unemployment, the level of insecurity is intolerable. The damage has been done, it will take time, patience and support from you to ensure that we succeed,” he said.
On the appointment of Amaechi as the DG of the presidential campaign organisation, Buhari had this to say, “I did not close my eyes and pick anybody. We came through processes recognised by our great party and he earned it.
“I thank him very much for accepting me because it is a lot of hard work with a lot of sacrifices.”
The national leadership of the APC formally presented some members of the Peoples Democratic Party in Rivers State, who have defected to the party.
Present at the rally were national officers of the party, some governors and party chieftains from across the federation.
