The 2019 general elections slated for February next year is of utmost importance for the overall well-being of the nation.
Making this observation in an advisory to the National Assembly, the Buhari Media Organisation (BMO) warns that whoever toys with it is playing with the very life of the nation.
In a statement signed by the Chairman Niyi Akinsiju and Secretary Cassidy Madueke the group urged the National Assembly to treat the N242Billion virement request by the President for the 2019 general elections with seriousness.
The group expressed shock that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is posing an obstacle to this very important national assignment. The party had alleged in some media reports that the President’s request will be marred by controversy since it did not come as a Supplementary Budget.
The group upbraided the PDP “for failing to purge itself of its corrupt tendencies even in the face of daunting national challenges.
“It runs contrary to reason that the PDP and its legislators will be angling to unduly benefit from the collective patrimony of Nigerians by insisting that the N242Billion be reserved for their use in the so-called constituency projects. It is rather unfortunate that while President Buhari is focused on utilising available resources for the good of all Nigerians, the PDP will stop at nothing to be a cog in the wheel of progress.
“We recall that members of the National Assembly, in their characteristic corrupt tendencies on the issue of constituency projects, had diverted funds budgeted for important national projects like the second Niger bridge, Mambilla power project, Enugu international airport and allocation for the fight against HIV/AIDS in the 2018 budget to questionable constituency projects.
We wish to remind the National Assembly, especially the PDP senators, that President Buhari’s fight against corruption is to rescue Nigeria from the evil effects of corruption and utilise available resources for the betterment of all Nigerians, rather than a few.”
