The new Command of the 22 Armoured Brigade, Sobi barracks Ilorin, Brig. Gen. Benjamin Sawyyer, has disclosed that we will curb any act that can result into Military/Civillian face off in the state stressing that Ilorin remain a strategic town for the peaceful co-existence of the nation.
He stated that he would further ensure that the proposed relocation of the members of the Boko Haram sect from the North Eastern states of the country does not found its feet in Kwara State.
Brig. Gen. Sawyyer stated this on Friday when he paid a courtesy visit to the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, in his palace. He noted that it became very important for him to visit the monarch before the commencement of his assignments as the new Brigade Commander for a successful tenure in office.
He added that “There is no doubt that I owe the Ilorin community the gratitude for being what I am today haven attended Government Secondary School, Ilorin. It is therefore on this premise that I pledge my unalloyed loyalty and commitment to you sir and to the security of the people of Ilorin in particular and Kwara State as a whole by extension.
“I will also ensure that no Military personnel clash with civillians in the community on no account. Kwara State is a peaceful place, Ilorin is also well known for that and we shall ensure that the peaceful and harmonious working relationship is sustained.”
In his response, the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, advised the new Brigade Commander to live by the culture and ways of life of the people of the state in order to achieve his targets of providing security for the lives and property of the people.
He also described Brig Gen. Sawyyer as a lucky Military officer for being transferred to the state in this critical period in the annals of the nation and prayed God to make his stay in the state successful.
