Amidst tight security in and around the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), former governor of Lagos state Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been sworn-in as the 16th President and Commander-In- Chief of the Armed Forces of Federal Republic of Nigeria.
By this ritual, the eight turbulent years of President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure came to an eventful end with President Tinubu taking over the realms of power at Presidential Villa Abuja.
He was sworn in by the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Olukayode Ariwoola at a well attended ceremony at the Eagles Square in Abuja.
Tinubu’s oath of office taking was preceded by the swearing in of Kashim Shettima, as the Vice President of Nigeria.
Prompt News Online reports that Mr. Tinubu won the presidential election conducted on February 25, 2023, defeating two front runners – PDP’s Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi of the Labour Party.
Present at the historic ceremony are foreign Presidents such as: South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa, Presidents , Évariste Ndayishimiye of Burundi, the Transitional President of Chad, Mahamat Déby; the President of Niger Republic, Mohamed Bazoum; and President Nana Akufo-Ado of Ghana.
Also present are: members of the diplomatic corps, President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote and Business mogul, Femi Otedola, Ministers and top government functionaries of the out-going administration.
