The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) will officially announce Mr. Éric Sékou Chelle as the new Head Coach of the Super Eagles on Monday. The unveiling will take place at 11:00 AM in the Media Conference Room of the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
This announcement was made through a statement released on the NFF’s website on Sunday.
Chelle’s appointment was confirmed by the NFF Executive Committee last Tuesday after a recommendation from the Technical and Development Committee.
The 47-year-old Franco-Malian takes over one of the most high-pressure coaching roles in world football, but NFF President, Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau, expressed strong confidence in Chelle’s abilities to take the Super Eagles to new heights.
“We recognize the immense passion Nigerians have for football, and we understand the diverse reactions following Coach Chelle’s appointment,” Gusau said on Sunday.
“We urge Nigerians to unite and offer their full support, as we believe he has what it takes to succeed with the Super Eagles.”
He further reassured Nigerians that the NFF will provide all the necessary support to ensure Chelle’s success.
Chelle’s first major task will be to lead the Super Eagles B team at the upcoming African Nations Championship in East Africa next month.
Following that, his focus will turn to the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, with critical away matches against Rwanda and home encounters against Zimbabwe in March.
The unveiling ceremony will also include the introduction of Chelle’s coaching staff, who will play a key role in the remaining six matches of the World Cup qualifying campaign.
Chelle, who previously led Mali’s Aiglons to the brink of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals, brings a wealth of experience to the role.
He recently departed his post as the manager of Algerian club MC Oran, the 1989 African Champions’ Cup finalists, to take up the Super Eagles position.
Former Super Eagles striker Victor Ikpeba has also voiced his support for Chelle, calling on Nigerians to back the new coach as he prepares to lead the national team.
