The profile of Ghana in the international diplomacy has further received a boost as she has become the first West African nation to get the much-awaited Coronavirus (Covid-19) vaccines.
Prompt News reports that Ghana became the first recipient of Covid-19 vaccines under the Covax scheme as India ships the Oxford- Astrazeneca Covid-19 vaccines to Accra for the immediate commencement of giving Ghanaians shots at their arms.
The first shipment of the vaccines was delivered by Emirates Airlines which was seen discharging the consignments at Kotoka International Airport in Accra.
Marie-Pierre Piorier of UNICEF confirmed the shipment, adding that Ghana has become the first West African nation to receive the approved vaccines because she had met all the requirements to deserve supply of the vaccines under Covax scheme.
She also revealed that Cote d Ivoire will be the next West African nation to receive supply of the Oxford- Astrazeneca Covid-19 vaccines even as she disclosed that no fewer than 92 countries will receive vaccines supply under the Covax scheme in the coming days and weeks.
Meanwhile, Ghana is targeting to vaccinate about 20% of her citizens in the first instance.
