The home-based Super Eagles failed to secure a place at the 2023 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) after they were knocked out on penalties by the Black Galaxies of Ghana.
The Eagles lost the first leg last Sunday 2-0 last week Sunday in Cape Coast.
Salisu Yusuf’s charges however rallied back in the return fixture at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja to take the in the penalties.
Zulkifilu Muhammed gave Nigeria the lead in the 76th minute.
With time running out, Chuks Akuneto netted the second goal for the hosts in added time.
In the penalty kicks, Ghana scored all five kicks, while the home Eagles could only hit the net four times.
Nigeria also failed to qualify for the last edition of the competition in Cameroon.
