By Olusegun Lawrence The Speaker of the House of Representatives has finally defected to the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).
He formally announced his defection at plenary on Tuesday, anchoring his decision to dump the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on the need to protect his political future and the interest of his State, Sokoto.
“In pursuit of the provision of 1999 constitution and political development in my state, I wish to formally inform you of my membership of APC.
“This is in continuation of the great sacrifice and also need to ensure development of constitutional democracy”, he told members of the Lower Chamber.
Recently, it was rumoured that Tambuwal had defected when he attended the meeting of the APC in Sokoto State.
But, this was promptly denied by his Media Adviser, Imam Imam, who said the Speaker only attended that meeting to discuss the future of his state.
