The early resolution of the political imbroglio in the neighbouring Niger Republic looks like a pipe dream as the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has directed the Army Chiefs of Staff of member countries to quickly effect the deployment of Standby Military Troops to restore constitutional order in the Niger Republic.
The stand of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government which held Emergency Summit in Abuja on Thursday was made public by the Chairman of ECOWAS Mission, Ambassador Umaru Aliu Toure while speaking to journalists at the Banquet Hall, Precedential Villa, Abuja.
According to him ECOWAS gave the directive at the end of its Second Extraordinary Meeting held in Abuja to address the political crisis in Niger.
The full details of the decision of ECOWAS are expected in the Communiquè which was yet to be made available at the time of filing this report.
