Terrorists, widely known as bandits, launched an attack on the Chikakore community in Kubwa, Abuja, on Sunday evening, abducting five residents, including an entire family.
The armed assailants, estimated to be around 20 in number, stormed the Health Centre extension area of Chikakore at approximately 11 p.m.
Quoting sources within the police, SaharaReporters said the attackers specifically targeted the homes of their victims, including Adesiyan Akinropo, a resident from Southwestern Nigeria.
Akinropo, along with his wife, son, a visitor, and another neighbor, was taken, bringing the total number of people kidnapped to five.
The assault also left a woman with serious injuries, having sustained a deep wound to her head from a gun butt. She was promptly rushed to a nearby hospital for medical care.
Although police officers from the Byzahin division arrived at the scene an hour and a half after the attack, the bandits had already fled with their captives.
A community member expressed frustration, stating, “The bandits have resumed their attacks in Chikakore. We’ve already prepared land and a five-bedroom house to house police officers, but there has been no deployment yet. In this latest attack, the police arrived over an hour after the bandits had taken the victims.”
Prompt News reports that a meeting between the police and local leaders is scheduled for Monday to discuss the situation further.
