Ademola Lookman scored twice as the Super Eagles defeated perennial rivals Cameroon 2-0 in their Round of 16 contest on Saturday night.
Nigeria had a goal ruled out for offside on seven minutes.
Simon slotted the ball home from inside the ball following a goal mouth melee but the goal was ruled out for offside.
Both teams struggled to create any meaningful scoring chances.
The Super Eagles took the lead through Lookman nine minutes before the break.
Victor Osimhen disposed an opposing defender and set up the Atalanta defender, who put the ball past Fabrice Ondoa.
Lookman scored the second on the dot of 90 minutes to send the Super Eagles into the quarter-final.
Jose Peseiro will battle Angola for a place in the semi-final.
