Borno has approved the immediate release of N2.1 billion for the payment of workers’ annual leave grants and gratuities of retirees.
The Borno Head of Service, Alhaji Mallam Fannami made this known on Thursday in Maiduguri.
“Sequel to demands by organised labour and concern about the plight of civil servants Gov. Babagana Zulum has directed the release of N2.1 billion to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal,’’ Fannami stated.
He added that the money was meant to alleviate the sufferings of civil servants and those of dependants of those who died in active service in the state.
He explained that one billion naira of the money was for payment of gratuity of civil servants who died in service; N602 million for payment of leave grants and N500 million for the payment of gratuity to staff of unified local government service.

Fannami stated that the governor appealed for the patience and understanding of civil servants as government would endeavour to address their problems within available resources.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Borno has also started the distribution of grains to 100,000 vulnerable households in Maiduguri and environs to cushion the effect of economic hardship. (NAN)
