The last may not have been heard of the Sunday’s invasion of St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Eziama-Obaire in Nkwerre council area of Imo state to forcefully bundle Chief Uche Nwosu during a church service as the Anglican Bishop of Orlu Diocese, The Rt. Rev. (Dr) Benjamin Okeke has called on the federal government and Imo state governments to probe the incident and bring the persons who desecrated a Holy Sanctuary to book.
Bishop Okeke made this call public in a press statement made available to journalists on Monday in Orlu titled: Disruption and Desecration of Solemn Church Service at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Eziama Obaire.
The Clergyman stated that the invasion of the church in full session during a divine and solemn service by a team of heavily armed men who also shot sporadically did not only scare the congregation but also brought the service to abrupt end with people running for their dear lives.
Bishop Okeke insists that the invasion of the church, heavy shooting and taking away of a Parishioner, Chief Uche Nwosu who was in the church for the Outing Service of his late mother who the same church buried few days back was the height of disregard for the Holy place.
He therefore said: “Without prejudice to the reason for the arrest of our said Parishioner, the whole episode constitutes a very serious assault on the Anglican Church and the entire Church of God. We totally condemn this despicable conduct and call on the Imo state Government and the Federal Government of Nigeria to investigate the matter and ensure that the perpetrators of this act are properly disciplined”.
Bishop Okeke’s reaction is coming on the heels of a similar press statement released on Monday in Owerri, the Imo state capital by The Most Reverend
(Dr.) David Onuoha, Archbishop, Anglican Province of Owerri who insisted that the Gestapo way a worshipper was bundled from St. Peter’s Anglican
Church, Eziama-Obaire in Nkwerre local government area of Imo state on Sunday can only fuel insecurity in the state.
Archbishop Onuoha also.ssid the invasion of the church in Imo state on Sunday shooting sporadically before abducting him on the fateful day by the Police has roundly desecrated God’s sanctuary.
