The Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF) said it has concluded arrangements to hold its National Junior and Senior Championships in Yenegoa, Bayelsa from 8th and 13th of March, 2017
The Technical director of the federation, Damian Ohaike said Ten(10) weight categories in each of the three styles ( Greco-Roman, Freestyle and female wrestling) will feature in the championship.
He said the Greco-Roman which is for male under the age of 17 shall fall within 52kg and 60kg, while seniors are: 59kg, 66kg, 71kg,75kg, 80kg, 85kg, 98kg & 130kg.
For women, Damian noted that the junior shall be within the weight level of 44kg and 46kg while the seniors are: 48kg, 53kg, 55kg, 58kg, 60kg, 63kg, 69kg & 75kg.
The technical director said the Men’s freestyle weight category for junior 17 and below is 50kg and 54kg whereas, for the seniors; 57kg ,61kg ,65kg ,70kg,74kg,86kg ,97kg & 125kg.
He explained that in order to meet up with the United World Wrestling standards, the country’s federation will be no weight tolerance.
Meanwhile, Hon Daniel Igali, the President Nigeria wrestling federation on his social media post revealed that governors Seriake Dickson and Nyesom Wike (Bayelsa and Rivers) have both expressed commitment to sponsoring tournaments and desire to improve amateur sports.
