Although, defending Champions of Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON), Nigeria on Wednesday hammered Zambia 4-0 in the second Group B match at Cape Coast Sports Stadium to secure the first win in the competition.
But, Super Falcons Technical Adviser, Thomas Dennerby has disclosed that his team will get better with each match.
Speaking exclusively to Prompt News Online at the team’s Elmina Beach Resort & Hotel situated right in the bank of Atlantic Ocean in the peaceful Cape Coast City, Dennerby expressed optimistism that Nigeria will not only qualify from the tough Group B but will play to get the FIFA Women’s World Cup ticket by winning her subsequent matches in Ghana.
“I can assure everybody that my team is still work in progress. We are working hard everyday to improve on our games. I know we can do better than we have done in the two games already played.
“Our 0-1 loss to South Africa in the first match was a sad defeat for us but we have bounced back and will continue to improve in every aspect of the game”, he said.
He assured that Super Falcons will try to retain the trophy won two years ago in Cameroon, adding that the team has the quality to deliver even as he has come out in defence of his players especially some of the big names who have not performed to the expectations of Nigerians and football fans across Africa.
“It is true that some players have not come to the party but we are a unit and work together to achieve our set objectives, I believe those who have not lived up to the expectations will put in more efforts to help the team and at the end of the day Nigeria will be the winner”, the Swede tactician submitted.
