The National Universities Commission (NUC) has given provisional licences to the newly established 37 universities approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) on May 15. The Executive Secretary, NUC, Prof. Abubakar Rasheed, at the presentation of provisional licences to the universities, said that the number of private universities in the country now stood at 147. The Police Command in Kano State, on Friday, arrested 57 suspects over alleged looting of property in the state. This is contained in a statement issued by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna-Kiyawa, in Kano. Haruna-Kiyawa quoted the Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Usaini-Gumel, as saying that the arrest was made in line with the strategies emplaced by the command to ensure protection of lives and property in the state.
