Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar will join other world leaders attending the burial of President Nelson Mandela, which ceremonies have been fixed for 15th of December.
He will lead a private delegation that will arrive in Johannesburg on the 14th of December.
Although out of office, Atiku maintains an exceptionally warm relationship with the leaders of South Africa.
“Nelson Mandela’s heroic struggle for human dignity and freedom and his passionate embrace of democracy has been an inspiration for our generation. I join with the world in mourning his loss and pray we follow his example for generations to come,” the former Vice President said.
Atiku hosted the late Mandela in 2000 on his second visit to the country, in the course of which the late icon of the South African anti-apartheid struggle unveiled the commemorative stone of the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Foundation.
