Emir of Ilorin, Ibrahim Sulu Gambari, has described women as major component of the nation-building that must be well catered for in the society.
He added that “Education is life, women must be well groomed with morality to further enrich the cultural image of the country which is fast loosing her historical recognition due to ill-knowledge and political unrest among other decadence.”
Sulu-Gambari stated this on Thursday when the national leadership of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, led by its President, Mrs Ifeyinwa Omowale, paid him a courtesy visit in his palace.
The monarch however appealed to government at all levels to fast- track policy thrusts that will further empower the women folk stressing that “Educating a woman is as good as educating the entire nation” even as he urged the people to endeavour to be well equipped with the history of their respective communities and that of the country at large.
He however commended the members of NAWOJ for the visit and charged them to create more awareness and advocacy on the need for women be more steadfast, articulate and productive in their respective obligations.
Earlier, the National President of NAWOJ, Mrs Ifeyinwa Omowole, had pledged that the association will continue to trace the history of the nation through traditional institutions across the country for a better nation-building process.
Mrs. Omowole also commended the Emir for his efforts towards ensuring that the people of Ilorin community and Kwara State at large continue to live together in peace stressing that “It takes wisdom and God’s guidance to achieve these landmark.”
She therefore disclosed that the on-going insurgency in some parts of the country was as a result of the loss of the sense of history among the people and assured that, “As mothers and critical stakeholders in the Nigeria Project, we will try our best to ensure that the history of our dear country is retained.”
In her remarks, the Chairperson of NAWOJ in the state, Hajia Binta Abubakar Mora , thanked the emir of his gestures and hospitality and promised that the women journalists will continue to justify the confidence reposed in them by the monarch and the entire Nigerian citizenry.
