The D-day, the much-awaited March 9 Imo Guber Election, is upon us (Ndi Imo) and every Imolite should rise up to seize the opportunity to vote for a Better Life for the citizens.
Any mistake to choose another Non-tested and Untrustworthy candidate as the next Governor of Imo State after almost eight years of untold hardship occasioned by bad policies of the “Rescue Mission Government”, will leave Imolites in political wilderness for the next eight years.
To know how bad the state have been misgoverned and its resources mismanaged by the outgoing government which some of the frontline Gubernatorial Aspirants are part of the bazaars of 2011 to 2019, no fewer than 73 persons are contesting for only one position of the Governor of Imo State.
This is thrice more than the number of candidates seeking to be governors in Abia, Enugu, Ebony or Delta. This also means that Imo State electorates are confused of whom to vote among the aspirants.
Many of them are not running issue based electioneering campaigns nor have a clear idea of how best to offer the citizens good governance after getting power for the sake of it and for personal aggrandizement.
But the choice for Ndi Imo has been unveiled for them the endorsement of the former Governor of Imo State and the flagbearer of Accord Party, Ikedi Ohakim, Ph.D, by the revered Imo State Elders Advisory Council led by Professor Raph Obioha.
This endorsement was made after selected top aspirants were interviewed by the elders, their campaign programs scrutinised, votes cast and Ohakim emerged the Best Candidate.
It is on this ground that the elders of Imo State have spoken to men, women and youth of the Heartland State. The words of the elders are words of wisdom, the wise man (woman) listens and gets wiser.
Aside the endorsement of Imo State Elders Advisory Council, traditional rulers from the three zones, opinion leaders, some professional bodies, traders, artisans, faith-based organisations and keke riders body have all endorsed Ohakim.
If also the large army of the unemployed youth in the state, the pensioners, civil servants, traders whose shops have been demolished and the sacked beneficiaries of Ohakim’s 10, 000 jobs should listen to the voices of the Elders of Imo State then Dr. Ikedi Ohakim is the next Governor of Imo State.
But it is still INEC that will have to make it happen if the electoral umpire will insist on Free, Fair and Credible Gubernatorial Election in Imo State devoid of “mago mago, wuru wuru” (hanky panky).
By so doing INEC will make nonsense of the words of the former Soviet Union’s iconic ruler, Josef Stalin’s who said that,, “Those who Cast the Votes Decide Nothing, Those who Count the Votes Decide Everything”.
