The newly inaugurated patron of the Oyo state chapter of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, Rt Hon. Michael Adeyemo has described his appointment as a call to more service to humanity.
Speaking at his investiture on Friday, Rt. Hon. Adeyemo thanked Oyo SWAN for making him their patron. He promised that he would not betray the trust they had in him.
“I thank SWAN for making me their patron. I also thank my colleagues at the House of Assembly for their support. Without their support I wouldn’t have had this honour. Therefore I dedicate this award to them”, the state number three citizen, flanked by some of the state lawmakers including the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Kehinde Subair, the Chairman House Committee on Youths and Sports Hon. Fatai Adesina as well as Hon Segun Ajanaku, said shortly after the symbols of his patronship were presented to him.
The symbols of the post presented to the new patron of Oyo SWAN by Head of the state sports writers, Mr Niyi Alebiosu were garlands, plaque and a copy of the report of the last year’s Sports Summit organised by the Association.
Presenting the materials to Rt. Hon Adeyemo, Mr Alebiosu stated frankly that the Speaker’s appointment as Oyo SWAN patron was purely on merit. He pointed out that Rt. Hon Adeyemo was entrusted with the patronship of his Association because of his philanthropist activities and his commitments to sports.
Oyo SWAN Chairman said ” the patron of SWAN is not for sale. It was neither offered to you because of your present position as Speaker of Oyo state House of Assembly nor given out because we want to collect money from you. We sincerely make you our patron to appreciate your contributions to development of sports in the state. We are impressed with the way you have been promoting sports at the grassroots. We want you to intensify these laudable efforts”.
As parts of the activities lined up for the investiture of new patron of Oyo SWAN, the state lawmakers, in solidarity with their leader, engaged the state sports writers in a friendly game of soccer at the Lekan Salami Stadium Adamasingba.
The Hon Fatai Adesina – led team were forced to a 2-2 draw by the youthful sports writers.
Also speaking to newsmen before the commencement of the match, the trio of Hon Fatai Adesina, Hon Kehinde Subair and Hon Segun Olaleye popularly known as Radical said separately that they used the friendly game to exercise their body and also to honour their leader, Rt. Hon Adeyemo.
The honoree, Rt Hon Adeyemo and the Oyo SWAN Chairman Niyi Alebiosu also featured in the match and displayed their yet – to – diminish soccer talents to the admiration of the spectators who who included politicians and sports fans.
The ceremony was also graced by loyalists of the lawmakers and sports journalists from various media outfits in the pace setter state
