The Appeal Committee for the July 31 Ward Congresses of All Progressives Congress in Ogun, on Thursday, said it had received three petitions from members of the party.
Chairman of the committee, Mr Segun Ojo, stated this at a press conference, held at Conference Hotel in Abeokuta.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that following disagreements among party members on the July 31ward congresses, the national headquarters of APC had inaugurated appeal committees for the state chapters.
Consequently, the national body appointed Ojo as the chairman of the committee alongside four other members.
Ojo, while addressing newsmen, noted that anywhere there were contests to fill positions, there was bound to be disagreements, adding that that was why his committee was in the state.
“In line with the constitution of the party and the party guideline, the national body appointed us to come to the state to see whether there are complaints, petitions and issues around ward congresses.
“So far, we have received three petitions and we have called the petitioners and the defendants together and had discussions with them,” he said.
The appeal committee chairman described the development as an internal affair necessary to strengthen and move the party forward.
Oni said that he was happy with the process, as it was devoid of violence and party faithful, including the aggrieved members, were allowed to express themselves.
He explained that the committee still required some materials in evidence from the petitioners to enable it collate and write its report which, he said, would be forwarded to the national body.
Ojo, however, assured that all the issues on the ward congresses would be resolved before the local government congresses, scheduled for Sept. 4.
He appealed to all APC members in the state to display maturity and priotise the party above individual interests. (NAN)
