The All Progressives Congress (APC) has raised the alarm over the antics of a certain political party that has engaged in buying Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs) with a view to disenfranchising the owners of such cards, especially in opposition strongholds.
In a statement issued in Lagos on Friday by its National Publicity Secretary, Lai Mohammed, the party said while such purchased PVCs may not be transferable, those who are buying them are doing so to reduce the votes in the opposition strongholds and improve the chances of their own party at the polls.
”We appeal to our supporters in particular and all Nigerians in general not to sell their PVCs, because this will amount to mortgaging the future of their children just because of a paltry 1,000 Naira,” it said. ”Your voter’s card is your power to help forge the much-needed positive change in our country. Protect it!”
Meanwhile, the APC has urged all its members and supporters who are yet to collect their PVCs and register to vote to do so urgently, saying they should visit their local government headquarters for the two exercises.
The party said while distribution of the cards and the continuos registration at the polling units may have ended, both exercises are still ongoing at the local government headquarters until Jan. 31st 2015, according to the assurances given by INEC.
”We have been assured by INEC that all those who registered will get their PVCs and the chance to vote in the 2015 general elections. We are therefore appealing to all our members and supporters who have not collected their cards to immediately proceed to their local government headquarters to collect them,” it said.
