By Paul Efiong The ongoing anti- corruption war in the country has been commended by an NGO, the Voice of Disability Initiative (VDI), calling on the government to fine-tune drastic economic policies that will address negative imbalance and fluctuation between Dollars and Naira.
Speaking with our reporter in Abuja, the founder and director of the NGO, Barrister Edeh Catherine Chinyere explained that the war against graft in the county should be supported by all, warning that the campaign should not be allowed to overwhelm basic economic measures which are the import of every good governance.
Barr Chinyere who bagged Mandela Washington Fellow in 2015, also noted lack of basic economic laws in the country by the government adding that such serious lacuna might be responsible for the continued negative naira/Dollars exchange rates in the country.
“Our naira is currently going down when compared to Dollars, where are we heading to in this country? Nobody is talking about it and these are some of the reasons why investors are not coming into the country for business, Naira value depreciation should be given serious attention because that is the very essence of good governance”.
She revealed that her NGO used to get some supports from donor agencies within and outside Nigeria, lamenting that such has stopped since probably due to lack of basic policies. She said “donor agencies do not approve funds for projects again, it seems all of them are scared to support now”.
Barr Chinyere also used the opportunity to advise different anti-graft agencies in the country to arrest and prosecute corrupt politicians who have embezzled state fund cautioning against selective individuals and political parties as alleged by members of main opposition party.
