The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two men, Chidiebere Okeke and Emebo Ogochukwu, for allegedly killing and burying their brother, Chibuzor Okeke, in a shallow grave at their compound in Oko, Orumba North Local Government Area.
The Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Itam, disclosed this during a press conference in Awka. He explained that the suspects accused Chibuzor of burglary and theft. In a fit of rage, they reportedly beat him severely, leaving him unconscious.
Efforts to revive Chibuzor at the hospital were unsuccessful, as he was confirmed dead by a doctor. In a bid to cover up the crime, the suspects buried his body in a shallow grave within their compound.
During the briefing, Itam also revealed that four children stolen from their parents in Bauchi State were rescued in Anambra.
The suspects involved in the child trafficking case, including an illegal foster mother, have confessed to the crime. One of the children has been identified, and steps are being taken to reunite them with their parents.
He further reported the successful dismantling of a criminal camp in Nimo, Njikoka Local Government Area.
The operation, conducted by a joint security team comprising the police, military, civil defense, and vigilante operatives, led to the recovery of 19 unexploded improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and the destruction of makeshift structures used by the criminals.
Intelligence from ongoing investigations aided this operation, which inflicted significant injuries on fleeing suspects.
In another operation, the police raided a black spot in Umunaga Village, Awka South Local Government Area, where two suspects, Okechukwu Chinwuko and Ezenwa Chinedu, were arrested.
Items recovered included a pump-action gun, live cartridges, a cutlass, criminal charms, and substances suspected to be hard drugs. Two female victims reportedly abused by the suspects were also rescued.
The Commissioner highlighted other achievements of the command, including the arrest of over 300 suspects, securing 15 convictions, and rescuing 14 kidnapped victims unharmed.
The police also recovered 43 unexploded IEDs, more than 100 firearms, 2,937 rounds of ammunition, 40 stolen vehicles, and various motorcycles. Among the notable arrests was a notorious kidnapper known as Pablo, who had been terrorizing communities in Anambra, Enugu, and Delta States.
The police assured residents of their continued dedication to ensuring security and tackling criminal activities across the state.
