Contrary to the tantrums the politicians throw in campaign stops, there was clear evidence of spirit of camaraderie among the candidates of the 18 political parties contesting in the Anambra governorship election billed for Saturday, November 6, 2021 as they signed a Peace Accord at Professor Dora Akunyili Women Development Center, Awka.
Speaking at the ceremony the Chairman of the National Peace Committee (NPC), General Abdulsalam Abubakar, urged candidates in the Anambra Governorship election to abide by the letter and Spirit of the Peace Accord which they have agreed to.
He told candidates the Peace Accord is not just a mere exercise but a clarion call to them all to commit all to a Peaceful election.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu said INEC has done all it should to make the electoral process smooth against incredible odds.
He appealed for violence free polls saying if the election is not violence free, the entire electoral process will be undermined.
The Peace Accord signing ceremony saw the candidates of all the political, INEC Chairman and NPC Chairman put pen to paper to commit to peaceful conduct before, during and after the November 6 Governorship Election.
The event which is organised by National Peace Committee (NPC) initiated by former Head of State General Abdulsalami Abubakar and Bishop Mathew Hassan Kukah to foster peace amongst politicians and their supporters was attended by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Usman Baba Alkali representated by DIG Joseph Egbunike who hails from Anambra state.
Others are the Chairman Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Anambra state, the leadership of all the political parties and Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) Chairmen National and Anambra State Chapter.
The significant aspect was that candidates of all the 18 political parties contesting in the Anambra governorship election signed the dotted lines.
They include former Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Professor Charles Soludo; Valentine Ozigbo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Senators Ifeanyi Ubah of APGA and Andy Ubah of APC.
