Ahead of Anambra state gubernatorial election billed for November and other bye-elections holding across Nigeria, the leadership of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have met in Abuja to strategize on how to assist the Commission to deliver free, fair and credible elections.
Speaking on Tuesday when the NSCDC Commandant General, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi paid him a courtesy visit at the Commission Headquarters in Abuja, INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu commended NSCDC for providing security for INEC staff, facilities and critical national assets and infrastructure.
According to Yakubu: “the Commission is grateful to NSCDC for providing security for our staff and critical national assets and infrastructure. I will like the two to continue to work together to ensure INEC deliver free and fair elections.
“Most importantly, NSCDC has a big role to play in the November 6 Anambra state governorship election to ensure that the Commission conducts free and credible election. I will also urge NSCDC to mobilize for this weekend’s Lere Federal Constituency in Kaduna state”, Mahmood demanded.
Aslo speaking at the occasion, the new NSDCD new Commandant General said he was at INEC to pledge the Corps readiness to partner with INEC to deliver credible elections in Nigeria.
Said he: “NSDC will continue to provide security inconjunction with other security agencies, adding that the Corps is very ready for the Anambra November 6 election and the Lere Federal Constituency Bye-election slated for this weekend”.
“I am aware that the Anambra November 6 governorship election is going to be very tensed hence the NSCDC will mobilise strongly for it. Also, I will physically go to the Lere Federal Constituency Bye-election this weekend monito”, Dr. Audi disclosed.
