Ogun State governor, Ibikunle Amosun has reiterated his commitment to ensure that the state is no longer a comfort zone for criminals.
The governor, who was speaking during the handover of 50 Hilux jeeps to security and para-military agencies in the state for the purpose of fighting and preventing crime in the Gateway state, disclosed that his administration has so far spent about N10 billion on the purchase of 250 of such vehicles and 13 Armoured Personnel Carriers (APC) so far.
”This government is willing to get more of these vehicles to be deployed to the border areas as car snatchers usually escape through the nation’s borders in the state to neighbouring countries”, the governor said.
He added that the APC’s would be needed in the border areas, adding that the roads being constructed by his administration had been designed in such a way that the security vehicles would man the entry points into the country.
Amosun said, ”all the efforts of this administration in the area of security are to ensure that residents sleep with their two eyes closed and to also re-assure investors that their investments are safe”.
Speaking earlier, Chairman of the Security Trust Fund, Kayode Are, a retired army colonel, said the Fund had so far realized N600 million with N20 million realized this year.
He said they are contributions from corporate bodies and individuals.
