Algeria has allocated eight planes to transport humanitarian aid to Libya after heavy floods swept the eastern part of the country, Algeria’s presidency said in a statement.
Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune had directed the government to provide vital humanitarian assistance to support the flood-hit areas in Libya, the statement said.
It added that eight Algerian Air Force aircraft would transport essential provisions like food, medical supplies, clothing and tents to Libya.
It underlined the unwavering solidarity of the Algerian people and government with their Libyan counterparts during this challenging time.
A total of 3,060 people were killed, and 5,200 others went missing in the Libyan city of Derna after heavy floods swept the eastern part of the country on Sunday, said Libya’s eastern-based Interior Ministry.
The floods were caused by a Mediterranean storm that made landfall in Libya on Sunday.
