By Godwin Kingsley, Lafia The Special Assistant to Governor Tanko Al-Makura on Youths and Students Affairs, Kashim Mohammed on Tuesday organized a football competition amongst youths, to promote peaceful co-existence among the diverse ethnic and religion groups in Nasarawa State.
Mohammed made this known while speaking to journalists at the closing ceremony of the Youth Football competition in Moroa, Akwanga west in Akwanga local government area of the state
He said that the competition was organized to promote unity, peaceful co-existence among the diverse ethnic, political and religious groups of the area and the state at large for the benefit of all.
“The aim of this competition is also to reduce youth restiveness in this area, and the state at large for the overall development of the country.
“Some people may think that the competition was organized just to make youths play football but they may not know that this competition will bring unity and peace among the people of the area and the state at large.
“It was organized to promote unity, love and peaceful co-existence among the people as well as arresting youth restiveness for the overall development of the country.
“This competition is part of my youth empowerment programme aimed at making the youth to discover their hidden talents and potential for the development of the state.
“As you can see, in football, there is no permanent enemy. When goals are scored, everybody is happy and nobody will ask whether the goal was scored by a Christian or a Muslim or someone from Eggon, Mada, Hausa or Fulani.
“You can see how people came out en-masse to witness the competition and the competition has brought together people from different ethnic, religious and political groups together in unity and peace”. Mohammed said
The Special Assistant thanked the governor for giving him the opportunity to serve in his government and promised to justify the confidence repose on him through embarking on projects that have direct bearing on the lives of the people of the state.
He used the medium to call on the youth to shun any act capable of tarnishing their image and to engage in meaningful ventures in order to contribute their quota to national development.
Mohammed appealed to the state government to construct the road linking Gudi to Moroa in order to reduce the hardship been faced by his people in transporting their agricultural and others goods to the market.
Also speaking, Hajiya Mairo Al-Makura, wife of the governor told journalists that she was overwhelmed with the turn out of the people who witness the competition and promised to support any person or groups whom his intention is to promote peace in the state.
She called on the people to support Gov. Al-Makura administration to enable him succeeds in delivering more dividend of democracy to the people of the state.
