Youths of Akoko South West, under the aegis of Akoko South West Youth Forum, (AKSWF), has begun to seek spiritual assistance on incessant accidents that have claimed many lives in Akungba and Oka, in Akoko South West Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The forum, in a letter signed by its President, Ajayi Danjuma, written to Synagogue Church of Nigeria, headed by Prophet T. B Joshua, sought the assistance of the Spiritual Father on urgent Revival, Cleansing and Crusade in Akungba and Akoko Communities.
It will be recalled that in the last five months, about four major road accidents which claimed scores of lives had happened in Akungba Akoko.
The letter partly reads, “Our father in the Lord sir, the current and recurring tragic and traumatic incidences leading to loss of lives and properties in Akoko South West, especially Oka, Akungba being the University host Town as well as Ikare and of course Akoko generally are highly alarming and call for speedy spiritual intervention”
“On this note I am using this privilege to reach out to you our dear Prophet that we sense the need for an urgent Revival/Deliverance/Cleansing at Akungba and Akoko land urgently as we no longer believe these ugly situations and occurrences are ordinary sir”
“We desperately need your spiritual attention now before the whole Akokoland is wasted and consumed by deadly road mishaps, kidnapping, robbery, raping, ritual killings, cultism and other social vices”
In similar vein, Christian and Muslim faithful in Akungba have been undergoing sessions of prayers and fasting, with the belief that “the demons behind the rampant accidents” would be curbed.
Not to be left behind, the traditionalists in the University Community have also approached the Palace of Alale of Akungba for permission to appease the gods of the land, for prayers and spiritual cleansing.
Responding, His Royal Majesty, Oba Isaac Sunday Adeyeye Ajimo III, the Alale of Akungba confirmed the several efforts of all sectors of the community at finding solution to the troubling situation.
“What is happening in Akungba is the ugly side of urbanisation without expansion.
The heavy traffic inter regional road from Lagos to Abuja that passes through the narrow road in our town, plus the hilly topography of our location, is mainly responsible for the incessant accidents.
“We have been engaging all stakeholders – from the State Government, Federal Road Safety, University Community, Youths and other elements in the society.
“As the Paramount Ruler, I cannot be against any move to improve the situation and correct the anomaly. No inimical rituals is being planned contrary to rumour mill.”
According to an insider “the Palace is unhappy with the spate of mishaps in Akungba. We also commiserate with the families of dead victims and the injured.”
“However, let it be clearly stated that Akungba is not in turmoil. Those peddling negative news about our peaceful community should be told to face the reality on ground. Since the Federal Highway of Abuja through Okene to Idoani and Epinmi through Oka were damaged and abandoned, most vehicles plying these roads now pass through Kabba-Ikare-Akungba to Owo and Lagos.”
