Oba Rashidi Ladoja, a former Governor of Oyo State and the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, has responded to claims made by former Osun State Governor, Chief Bisi Akande, regarding the assassination of former Attorney General of the Federation, Chief Bola Ige.
Ladoja who spoke in Ibadan denied Akande’s allegations, stating, “Chief Akande lied about me.”
The controversy erupted over the weekend when Akande raised new concerns about the unsolved murder of Chief Ige, implying that Ladoja might hold vital information related to the case.
Ladoja quickly rejected the accusations, saying, “Chief Bola Ige was murdered on December 23, 2001, nearly 18 months before I became governor. I took office on May 29, 2003, so my tenure began long after his tragic death.”
He further emphasized, “I did not withdraw the case, nor did my administration withdraw any legal proceedings. In fact, the case went all the way to the Supreme Court.”
He went on to accuse Akande of dishonesty, stating, “Chief Akande lied about me, and this is not the first time. People have long said he tends to lie. Even Baba Adebanjo mentioned in his book that Akande is prone to lying.”
Ladoja also expressed his sorrow over Ige’s death, stating, “We are all deeply saddened by the loss of Chief Ige. We all cared deeply about his murder, and I was very close to him while he was alive.”
