In furtherance of its “No City Left Behind’’ project, Nigerian carrier, Air Peace on Thursday began daily flight operations from Lagos to Yola via Abuja.
The airline’s inaugural flight, a Boeing B737-500 aircraft, touched down at the Yola Airport at noon.
It was received by officials of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Nigeria Immigration Service as well as tour and travel operators in Adamawa State.
The Managing Director of Air Peace, Mr Allen Onyema, said the airline was committed to serving cities and places where others were shying away from as part of its contribution to socio-economic development.
Represented by the airline’s Corporate Communications Manager, Mr Chris Iwarah, said Air Peace had a vision of making seamless connections across Nigeria a reality for individuals, businesses and corporate organisations.
“The launch of our Lagos-Yola- Lagos and Abuja-Yola-Abuja services just days after the inauguration of our Lagos-Kano-Lagos and Kano-Abuja-Kano routes opens a new chapter in our spectacular flight operations.
“We are quite hopeful that our great experience will positively impact our plan to expand into other cities in the North of Nigeria and some other grossly underserved areas of the country in the days and months ahead,’’ he said.
According to him, the airline, with a fleet of 24 aircraft, is determined to deliver the best flight experience on Yola route and its 11 other domestic destinations.
Onyema said Air Peace was also expanding its operations in West Africa with the launch of its Freetown, Banjul and Dakar routes scheduled for Feb. 19.
Earlier, the Airport Manager, Yola Airport, Mr Sheikh Adamu, thanked Air Peace for extending flight operations to Yola, urging the airline to be consistent and have on-time departure on the route, in order to gain the confidence of the travelling public.
He said FAAN and the other aviation agencies would continue to provide the needed support and cooperation that would enable the airline to have a seamless operation at the airport.
