Embattled Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike Tuesday, lost his bid to nullify the sitting of the Rivers State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal in Abuja.
Prior to the ruling of the Tribunal which ousted him on Saturday, Mr. Wike had approached the Supreme Court to challenge its relocation from Port Harcourt to Abuja.
Mr. Wike’s counsel had argued that the relocation of the Tribunal was against the law setting it up.
But in its ruling, the Apex Court averred that the President of the Court of Appeal acted in line with the law.
It said the relocation of the Tribunal to Abuja was to safeguard the lives of the Tribunal chairman and members.
Consequently, the court affirmed the judgment of the Appellate Court, which had earlier approved the decision of the Tribunal to assume jurisdiction.
Prompt News recalls that the Tribunal in its ruling on Saturday nullified the election of Mr. Wike as Governor of Rivers State.
It also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct fresh governorship election in the state.
